Series 6

Investment Company and Variable Contracts Products Representative Qualification Examination

      Better known as the Series 6 exam.  As part of the registration process, you must pass examinations administered by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) to demonstrate competence in the areas in which you will work.

     This exam is designed to assess the competency of entry-level representatives.  It is designed to safeguard the investing public by helping ensure that representatives are competent to perform their jobs. The exam seeks to measure the degree to which each candidate possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the critical functions of a Registered Representative.
 

     Series 6 Exam information

The Exam:  100 questions  (the exam has 105 questions, 5 will not count)
To Pass:  You will need 70% right
Time to complete the exam:  2 hours, 15 minutes* 

 

     According to FINRA, the exam is broken down into 4 Job Functions:

Function 1          22 Questions
Regulatory fundamentals and business development

Function 2          47 Questions
Evaluates customers' financial information, identifies investment objectives, provides information on investment products, and makes suitable recommendations

Function 3          21 Questions
Opens, maintains, transfers and closes accounts and retains appropriate account records

Function 4          10 Questions
Obtains, verifies, and confirms customer purchase and sale instructions


The bank of questions changes constantly as a result of amendments to, or the introduction of, government and self-regulatory organization (SRO) rules and regulations, changes in industry practice and the introduction of new products.

The Series 6 Course

     This is not an easy exam.  However, it is passable.  Our course will educate you on the general concepts that you need to know.  It's designed to provide a foundation of knowledge for you to build on to pass your exam.  Our course breaks down the material into easier bite-size pieces and then puts them all together so you have a better understanding of the securities industry and how finances work.

     The Series 6 course is typically two days of live instruction.  We cover the necessary material needed to pass your exam.  Included in the course is a Series 6 Study Guide.  It's a simplified book to use as a reference when you are studying.  The course and the playbook alone is not enough for you to pass your exam, it's the starting point.  We will cover sample exam-type questions in the course, however you will need to do more.
